The Worst Things About Being Away From Your Roommates-image

Moving into an apartment with your pals is such an exciting step in your college lives. You’ve gathered a close group of friends during your time living in the dorms and now that you’ve found the best of your bests, you’re moving in together! But what happens when after spending so much time together during the school year, you have to separate and head home for the summer? Jobs, internships, and even summer courses at community college get in the way. You don’t have time to spend your days together like you used to. Without them by your side, you might start to miss being at college at home in your Pierpont Place apartment . Here’s what you miss out on when you’re away from your roomies all summer: Your PRT Riding Buddy We know the PRT isn’t always the most reliable transportation. If you take it on a regular basis, you’ve probably experienced a time when the shuttle wasn’t on time and you had to wait around. Luckily, with a roommate you have someone to wait with you. If you’re at home and working a job or an internship and taking public transportation, it’s sad to have to wait for it all alone. If only your roomie were there to keep you company... Borrowing Meal Swipes For those independent folks who like to cook for themselves, a meal plan isn’t a necessity anymore. However, sometimes you get a little lazy and you’re looking for a quick but delicious meal. That’s when you head to Chick-fil-A or one of the many other tasty dining options at WVU. Having a friend with extra meal swipes is especially handy when you don’t feel like forking over money for those chicken nuggets. It’s nice to have a roomie with a meal plan! No Workout Partner Having a fitness center located right in your apartment building is clutch. But when you don’t have someone with you to keep you motivated, it’s hard to convince yourself to actually go. With a roommate, you have a built in workout buddy. At home, you probably have to go to some local gym all by your lonesome. Who Will Sing Our Unofficial Anthem With You? When you hear the song, you can’t help but sing it. Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver is officially a West Virginian anthem. If you’ve lived in West Virginia for any length of time you’ll know all the words and can sing them in your sleep. People from outside of West Virginia probably don’t. They might know the words to the song but they won’t sing them with as much fervor and passion as one of your roommates. Living with roommates kind of ruins you for living alone. It’s hard to go without them once you’ve been with them for so long. Don’t worry! You’ll see them again in August! What do you miss most about your roomies? Share with us on Facebook and Twitter.

Celebrate Dad-image

What would we do without dads? They pick us up when we fall down, they teach us how to ride our bikes, and how to be kind and brave and fair. We look up to them. They’re our lifelong role models. This Sunday is a day for showing them how much we appreciate them and the hard work they put in to raise us into the people we are today. We want to thank them! This Sunday for Father’s Day, treat Dad to a tasty Americana brunch of epic proportions. The Preston County Inn is hosting Father’s Day brunch and you’re invited. What’s Dad in the mood for? French toast? San Francisco Joe’s buttermilk pancakes? Buckwheat cakes? An omelette bar? No matter what he’s hungry for, Preston County Inn has it. They say that the fastest way to someone’s heart is through their stomach but since we’ve already got the in with dad, we’ll let Preston County Inn do the cooking. Make your reservations here and see more of the menu too. Also on Father’s Day this year is the Triple S Father’s Day Family Fun Day. From 11 AM until 3 PM spend the day with Dad at Triple S Harley-Davidson. They will have music, food, and games for the whole family. This is an especially great event if you have younger siblings since they’ll have a lot of activities for younger kids. But just because you and dad aren’t young anymore doesn’t mean you can’t participate in the fun too! Luckily for us, Triple S Harley-Davidson is only a 10 minute drive away from Pierpont Place apartments. If you’re not actually a pro on the grill like Dad, you can substitute these grill cupcakes instead. You’ll need to be a little crafty with the icing and gummy candies but if Dad can master grilling for entire cookouts of people we think you can manage a cupcake for your favorite guy. This recipe will help you maneuver your way around the kitchen. Spend Father’s Day with the real MVP of the day: Dad. He deserves to be treated and pampered a little. That pampering might not be extravagant and not quite measure up to what you did for mom but we know he’ll appreciate the attention. What do you do for your dad on Father’s Day? Share your favorite dad moments with us on Facebook and Twitter.

You probably haven’t experienced that excitement in a while but you can still have a pizza party! As college students, pizza is fuel. Fuel for fun, fuel for tests, fuel for the gym. Morgantown has a spattering of some pretty great pizza joints that are worth giving a taste. Brews and pizza await you at Mountain State Brewing Co. The largest and one of the oldest breweries in West Virginia has an amazing selection of craft beers crafted from water at the tip top of the watershed. The oven fired artisan flatbread pizzas are great pairings for the crisp beers. We don’t recommend getting one without the other. They have a selection of beers that are always available as well as a handful of seasonal brews. Come try the spring beers and a pizza to match it. See their beer list here . Mountain State Brewing is only a 10 minute drive away from Pierpont Place but make sure that you’re drinking responsibly and always have a designated driver. Continuing with the beer and pizza combo theme, we’ve got Pies and Pints to satisfy your hunger and thirst. Their craft beers and gourmet pizzas make for a tasty pairing. With around 20 beers on tap, you’re bound to find something that peaks your interest and you really can’t go wrong no matter what pizza you order; they’re all amazing! The handmade crusts and fresh ingredients take your senses to a new level. We’re positive you’ll enjoy the pizza AND the beer at Pies and Pints.
