The Worst Things About Being Away From Your Roommates

Moving into an apartment with your pals is such an exciting step in your college lives. You’ve gathered a close group of friends during your time living in the dorms and now that you’ve found the best of your bests, you’re moving in together! But what happens when after spending so much time together during the school year, you have to separate and head home for the summer? Jobs, internships, and even summer courses at community college get in the way. You don’t have time to spend your days together like you used to. Without them by your side, you might start to miss being at college at home in your Pierpont Place apartment. Here’s what you miss out on when you’re away from your roomies all summer: Your PRT Riding Buddy We know the PRT isn’t always the most reliable transportation. If you take it on a regular basis, you’ve probably experienced a time when the shuttle wasn’t on time and you had to wait around. Luckily, with a roommate you have someone to wait with you. If you’re at home and working a job or an internship and taking public transportation, it’s sad to have to wait for it all alone. If only your roomie were there to keep you company... Borrowing Meal Swipes For those independent folks who like to cook for themselves, a meal plan isn’t a necessity anymore. However, sometimes you get a little lazy and you’re looking for a quick but delicious meal. That’s when you head to Chick-fil-A or one of the many other tasty dining options at WVU. Having a friend with extra meal swipes is especially handy when you don’t feel like forking over money for those chicken nuggets. It’s nice to have a roomie with a meal plan! No Workout Partner Having a fitness center located right in your apartment building is clutch. But when you don’t have someone with you to keep you motivated, it’s hard to convince yourself to actually go. With a roommate, you have a built in workout buddy. At home, you probably have to go to some local gym all by your lonesome. Who Will Sing Our Unofficial Anthem With You? When you hear the song, you can’t help but sing it. Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver is officially a West Virginian anthem. If you’ve lived in West Virginia for any length of time you’ll know all the words and can sing them in your sleep. People from outside of West Virginia probably don’t. They might know the words to the song but they won’t sing them with as much fervor and passion as one of your roommates. Living with roommates kind of ruins you for living alone. It’s hard to go without them once you’ve been with them for so long. Don’t worry! You’ll see them again in August!
