Singles Awareness Day-image

Valentine’s Day might have been a struggle for those who aren’t one half of a couple. Don’t worry though, the day after Valentine’s Day is always Singles Awareness Day! Whether you’re flying solo or half of a couple, everyone can appreciate being alone every once in awhile. Taking time to yourself to explore things is a great experience. You don’t have to worry about being rushed or dragged off to something else. You can take as much time as you want! Celebrate Singles Awareness or just celebrate hanging out by yourself this week. Sure museums are fun to burrow into with a partner. You get to point things out and learn together and compare knowledge. However, going in alone is a whole different experience. You have all the time in the world to wander around the museum, marvel at each exhibit for as long as you want and revisit the same thing over and over again. When you’re with a partner, they might try to drag you ahead to something they’re interested in. We suggest the Morgantown History Museum or the Monongalia Arts Center . Explore the relics and artifacts that have historical significance to Morgantown and the arts of the region. Learn more about the Morgantown History Museum and the Monongalia Arts Center before you head out on your own. Luckily for us, both the History Museum and the Arts Center are just a short 7 minute drive away from Pierpont Place Apartments . You might think that going to the movies is the quintessential date night idea. Taking your date out to dinner and then to the theater for a cinematic adventure of your choosing. However, the movies are much better when you go in alone. Imagine walking in, purchasing one ticket, buying popcorn, candy and a drink that you won’t have to share with anyone else and taking a seat in the theater in silence, ready to enjoy your chosen movie. If you’re actually single you might appreciate the incredibly timely How to Be Single or if you’re looking for a superhero movie that goes against the grain you’ll like Deadpool. There are tons of fantastic movies out this time of year so you will have some great choices. Check movie times for this week here for Regal Morgantown Stadium, just a short 10 minute drive away from Pierpont. You’re probably familiar with the phrase ‘Netflix and Chill’ but we recommend ‘Netflix and Snacks By Yourself’. Sure it’s fun to watch movies and binge TV shows with someone else but wouldn’t you much rather make it through 3 full seasons of Orange is the New Black on your own without anyone judging you for still being in your pajamas? If you haven’t seen Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards or Better Call Saul, you still have some time to catch up before the new seasons are aired. You don’t have to actually be single to celebrate Singles Awareness Day. Enjoy some solitude and your own company sometime and you’ll really appreciate it.

How to Productively Spend Your Snow Days-image

(Photo courtesy of http://bit.ly/1PoK6Me) With the amount of snow Morgantown has gotten lately, you may have already spent some days snowed in at your home at Pierpont Place . While spending the day at home binge watching your favorite television shows is a great plan for a snow day, you may get tired of doing so the more days you spend inside this winter. If you’re looking to spend your days a little more productively on days when the weather forces you to be a homebody, use these tips for some inspiration! Try Something New Productively doesn’t just include work and school. A snow day is the perfect excuse to take the time to do something you have always wanted to learn. For example, maybe you’ve wanted to try your hand at some delicious recipes, but don’t normally have the time for the preparation of a more intricate meal. Even if a recipe takes a couple hours, a snow day gives you all of the time in the world! You can put on some music while you chop and saute, or whatever else the recipe calls for. Another idea is to craft. Check the Internet for instructions on how to do Origami. You can read up on some of the history of it and have an interesting new skill. Or, learn a new party trick by teaching yourself how to juggle. It will take practice, but your friends will be in awe when you show off your newfound talent. Organize Your Digital World Do you have a ton of pictures and files on your computer? You now have the time to go through them! Your computer is one of your most prized (and pricey) possessions, so treat it right! Delete any pictures and files that are obsolete and then get to organizing. Add folders and sort your documents to be as functional as possible. Next, use a flashdrive or external hard drive to backup your computer. When you’re done, update your software to the latest version available so that your computer is in tip-top shape to do your school work and for your personal needs. It is nice to have days off where you can lay in bed and catch up on your favorite shows, but sometimes you want to spend your day more productively. Trying something new or organizing your digital world can help you stay happy and productive. What do you like to do on snow days? Share with us the ways you stay productive on your days off!

Get Organized-image

(Photo courtesy of http://bit.ly/1Omtteb) The new year is the perfect time to prioritize and get organized! That’s why January 2016 is “Get Organized Month!” Not only is it a new year, but also a new semester! In celebration of this, we have gathered the best tips and tricks to help you get organized this month. It’s never too late to get yourself in gear, but there is nothing like starting off on the right foot. Keep these tips in mind when you’re trying to organize your coursework or your home at Pierpont Place! De-clutter Getting rid of clutter is an obvious tip for organization, but is often harder to execute than we imagine. The real problem is that we often grow attached to things that we don’t need. For instance, we hold on to clothes that we never wear because we are afraid if we part with those items, we will come to regret it later. The best tip for decluttering is to get a trash bag and put all of the clothes you never wear and all of the things you never use into it. Tie off the bag and wait a week. After living your life for a week and not needing any of the items in the bag, you should have the willpower to donate those items to charity. There’s even a very good chance that you forgot about what you put in the bag. Do not open the bag before taking it to donation! If you do, you might start second guessing your choices and keep things you don’t want or need. Time Management The other most problematic way a lot of us are disorganized is in relation to time management. No matter how hard we try, we are always late for class or pulling an all-nighter to finish a research paper. Imagine how much less stressed you would be if you had a better system for managing your time! First, make a list of your priorities. After determining what is important to you, buy an appointment book. Schedule appointments with yourself for all of your priorities. Writing down your schedule is like a contract with yourself. You will be more likely to stick to it and take your scheduling seriously. Getting organized for the new semester will help with your stress levels and overall happiness. Once you get your apartment de-cluttered and a better time management system in place, you will be on your way to the best semester yet!
